Sorry for the lack of posts

When I came up with this idea to blog this trip I was depending on using my blackberry email.  Well that doesn't work worth a damn.  Even when I do find internet it is expensive and slow as Christmas.  I am hoping my next place will be better.  Last night was the Greece vs Argentina game in Polokwane.  Short story the Greece suck, Argentina is pretty damn good, but their fans are amazing.  Never seen so many flags.  Anyways headed out for a drive to Pretoria to cheer on theYanks in a must win game.  This trip has been a trip of a life time.

Day 3

    Well we are about to start of another day here.  It has only been a couple but with all of the experiences if feels like weeks.  My buddy from Dallas and I have one hell of a time.  The people here are extremely friendly and we feel very welcomed in this country.  Our first day started our partying to get ready for the USA v slovania game.  Part of our drive through the stadium took us through a ghetto in Jo'burg.  In a ghetto vs ghetto contest, they would beat the pants off of us.  Our driver told us that it was made up of illegals.  This was poor in a whole different level.  The popular woman's dress was to wear a towel around the waist and pin it there.  I am hoping this fashion makes its way back to the states.  Guys were jumping in front of the car holding homemade signs that said safe parking.  Ya real safe I am betting.  Anyway we got dropped off by the stadium and started the march to Ellis Park.  What a feeling walking with thousands of other soccer fans singing and chanting.  Everyone loved my cowboy hat and flag.  A couple morons thought it was a Chile flag, but I quickly told them they were idiots.  The feelings of excitement are hard to explain.  I had goose bumps when we walked to our seats.  Were were on the goal line on the first level, great seats!  Side note - When on tv you see everyone drinking bud.  this is because this is the only damn beer they sell at the game.  I am not gonna recap the game since I am sure you saw it, but I want to comment about our third goal they took back.  When they scored it was one of the coolest moments of my life.  The celebration in the stands was amazing.  It took everyone a minute to realise they called the goal back.  It felt like the life was sucked right out of you.  Every single person that we say that night would tell you sorry, the US got robbed.  I hope the ref gets eaten by a lion.  Afterwards we headed to a town square surrounded by pubs to watch the England game.  Ton of people out drinking.  This was a blast.  I made friends with some college students that were as hammered as us.  South Africans must have a great sense of humor since they like mine.  This night ended at 3am.

   Next morning, err noon, we remembered that we bought rugby tickets the night before.  We got a driver and headed out to some small ass town to watch the South African Spring Bocks play Italy.  How cool is that.  This was a totally different experience. 

As John said, rugby fans are the equivalent to our |Nascar fans.  What a crazy game.  I have never watched rugby and do not really understand the game.  All I know is that I have zero desire to play that game.  We could not get over how big these guys were.  During the game we noticed that this guy was taking off his shoe, pouring his beer in it and drinking it.  Words do not do it justice.  There were at least two fights, where the refs were more interested in watching then doing anything about it.   What a day that was.  Well we are about to head out to watch Brazil and Ivory Coast.  Look for the guy wearing a cowboy hat, I just know they are gonna put me on tv one of these games!

My prison

I think it is starting to sink in that I will be on this flight for 15 hours. There is an excitement in the air. Everyone is asking what games you are watching and about previous games. All I can say is thank you Albert for the drink tickets and pills!

Here we go!

I am sitting here at the airport bar waiting for this trip to kickoff. Earlier today I got a message that my itinerary was canceled, which was nice. However the people at delta assured me I would still make it to Africa, but to make sure and hustle when I get to Atlanta to make my flight. On a side note, I am not sure who gets more second looks at an airport: arabs or a guy in a cowboy hat.

More of an Adventure than a Trip

  When we heard that South Africa was hosting the next World Cup, everyone questioned if they would be able to handle the worlds largest sporting event.  Now after planning everything I am starting to wonder, what have I gotten myself into?  I am leaving for the dark contienent June 16th and returning June 28th.  So in two days I will start off with a 19+ hour flight, to watch 6 games and try to drink all the beer in Africa.  Stay tuned for more.
